Contract Opportunity: Data Protection Advisory Specialist Consultant

Global Charity | Remote | ⏳ 3 Months | Outside IR35

Are you a senior Data Protection & Privacy specialist who thrives on building frameworks, driving governance, and shaping global standards?

We’re supporting a highly respected international charity in strengthening its global data security and privacy function — and we’re looking for an expert who can deliver a strategic uplift over the next three months.

This is a pivotal advisory role, working closely with Global Teams and Country Offices to ensure data is managed ethically, securely, and in line with international best practice.

What You’ll Deliver (Statement of Work)

As the lead consultant, you will take ownership of a defined programme of work, including:

1. Global Data Security & Privacy Assessment

Conduct a holistic review across all global teams, identifying gaps, risks, and opportunities for improvement.

2. Strategic Framework (2026–2028)

Develop and publish a robust Data Security & Privacy Strategy, including:

Global policies
Compliance requirements
Ethical data use principles
Defined roles & responsibilities

3. Risk Ownership

Introduce clear attribution of data security risks to business owners, ensuring accountability and clarity across functions.

4. Governance Structures

Appoint Data Security & Privacy Focal Points across Global Teams
Establish a Global Steering Group to oversee implementation, compliance, and maturity improvement

5. Training & Capacity Building

Design and deliver tailored training to Country Offices and Global Team Focal Points.

6. Assurance Programme

Build and embed a structured assurance programme to measure effectiveness, compliance, and risk reduction.

7. Advisory & BAU Support

Provide expert guidance on day-to-day data protection matters as required.

Additional Value You’ll Bring

We’re especially interested in consultants with experience in:

Benchmarking against global standards (GDPR, ISO 27001, NIST, DPDI, etc.)
Leading cultural change and awareness programmes globally
Advising on emerging risks:
AI governance & responsible AI
Cross-border data transfers
Third-party/vendor data management

Who This Is Ideal For

A seasoned Data Protection / Privacy / InfoSec consultant who has:

Led global data governance or privacy programmes

Senior stakeholder credibility and Board-level communication skills

Experience in charities, INGOs, NGOs or complex international organisations (preferred)

Strong working knowledge of GDPR and global data protection frameworks

The ability to rapidly assess, design and operationalise high-impact governance models
