Overview
AtkinsRéalis is one of Canada's largest private sector nuclear engineering groups. We have been providing a wide range of services to the nuclear industry in Canada and around the world since for more than 60 years. We are proud to be the steward of Canadian CANDU nuclear technology.
Candu Energy Inc., an AtkinsRéalis company has entered into an agreement with Ontario Power Generation (OPG) to deliver the Darlington New Nuclear Project (DNNP). The project is spearheading the deployment of the BWRX-300 Small Modular Reactor (SMR), the first of its kind built in the western hemisphere, and due to be on the grid by the end of this decade. We are looking for individuals with a strong technical knowledge and experience to support commissioning planning and execution activities.
Commissioning is a critical aspect in the DNNP project for several reasons:
Ensuring Operational Readiness: Commissioning involves rigorous testing and validation of all systems and components to ensure they function correctly and safely. This process is essential to confirm that the SMR is ready for operation and can meet its performance specifications.
Safety and Compliance: During commissioning, the SMR undergoes various safety checks and regulatory inspections to ensure compliance with all relevant standards and regulations. This helps to mitigate risks and ensures that the reactor operates within safe parameters.
Quality Assurance: Commissioning helps to identify and rectify any issues or defects in the system before the reactor becomes operational. This phase is crucial for maintaining high-quality standards and ensuring the reliability of the SMR.
Training and Familiarization: The commissioning phase provides an opportunity for the operational staff to become familiar with the new systems and procedures. This training is vital for ensuring that the staff can operate the SMR safely and efficiently.
Integration and Optimization: Commissioning allows for the integration of various systems and components, ensuring they work together seamlessly. It also provides an opportunity to optimize the performance of the SMR, enhancing its efficiency and effectiveness.
Project Milestone: Successful commissioning marks a significant milestone in the project, signaling the transition from construction to operation. It is a key indicator of project progress and readiness.
Overall, commissioning is a vital step in DNNP SMRx project, ensuring that the reactor is safe, reliable, and ready for operation. It helps to uphold the high standards of quality and safety that are essential for nuclear projects.
