About The Role

Join the Analytics, Commercial Solutions team, in the Data Scientist I position. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting the Analytics and Strategic Insights team to provide data-driven solutions for CMHC’s commercial business. This role involves proficiency in integrating and preparing large and varied datasets, and communicating these results to various audiences, including senior management.

This is a temporary position of a duration of 24 months.

What You’ll Do

Translate complex data into clear business insights by analyzing trends, identifying opportunities, and supporting strategic decision‑making across the organization. Leverage CMHC’s datasets and tools across multiple systems and programs to understand CMHC’s business and recommend actionable solutions
Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners, including the Analytics team, business units, and leadership, to understand business needs, propose analytical approaches, and ensure solutions are aligned with strategic objectives.
Support the development and continuous improvement of analytics practices by sharing knowledge, recommending improved methodologies, and establishing repeatable processes and best practices for analysis, reporting, and insight generation.
Conduct advanced data analysis and apply appropriate statistical techniques when needed to build or enhance analytical tools and business-facing solutions.
Communicate findings and recommendations effectively through clear presentations, visualizations, and reports such as Power BI tailored to both technical and non‑technical audiences, including senior management. Ensure insights are accessible, actionable, and aligned with business priorities.
Ensure reports and underlying data are well governed by regularly reviewing them for accuracy, consistency, and relevance, and adjusting them as business needs and strategic priorities evolve.
Clearly document tasks and analytical processes and create and maintain business‑ready materials to support knowledge sharing and continuity.

What You Should Have

An undergraduate degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Finance, Economics, or any other related quantitative field.
A minimum of 3 years working with advanced analytics and data science technologies.
A demonstrated proficiency in SAS, Python, and SQL and experience using a wide range of analytical techniques (e.g. supervised learning, clustering, natural language processing (NLP), time series analysis, regressions, correlations, statistical significance, sentiment analysis, & large language models).
Advanced proficiency in Power BI, including data modeling, DAX development, interactive dashboard creation, and designing intuitive visualizations for business and executive audiences.
Demonstrated experience working with Big Data technologies such as PySpark.
Advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills which drives creativity and innovation.
A strong ability to work on several initiatives simultaneously and work within tight deadlines.
An advanced ability to communicate abstract analytics findings to business teams and senior management.
