SOC Shift Lead – Defence & National Security

On-site | 24×7 Operations

Up to £70,000 + shift allowance + bonus

Eligible for DV Clearance Required

This SOC Shift Leader role is a front-line leadership role in a mission-critical Cyber Security Operations Centre, protecting UK defence and national security assets. As the SOC Shift Lead, you’ll own live operations during your shift, leading analysts, enforcing operational standards, and ensuring threats are detected, triaged, and resolved consistently and professionally. This is a high-responsibility role for a senior analyst or deputy lead ready to take the next step into a SOC shift leadership role.

As the SOC Shift Leader:

Take ownership of SOC operations during your shift, ensuring continuity, quality, and clean handovers
Lead and support Tier 1 and Tier 2 analysts in a 24×7 environment
Enforce operational standards across alert triage, investigation, response, and documentation
Act as the first escalation point for non-critical incidents
Coach analysts through investigations and support ongoing skills development
Collaborate closely with SOC Manager, CTI, and Incident Response teams
Feed operational improvements into SOPs, playbooks, and workflows

To secure this SOC Shift Leader role, you will have:

Proven SOC experience across network, infrastructure, and OS security
Experience in leading teams under pressure while maintaining high operational standards
Experience mentoring analysts, supporting QA, or running peer review processes
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Solid understanding of the OSI model and key protocols: DNS, HTTP/S, SMTP, SSL, FTP/S, LDAP/S
Hands-on experience with SIEM platforms and/or packet capture tools

This SOC Shift Leader role gives you Genuine leadership responsibility in a defence-critical SOC with exposure to live, real-world threats rather than simulations. It provides a pathway into SOC management or senior operations roles. Enables you to use your skills to take on defence in the highly targeted National Security arena.
