Position Overview

Our insurance client is seeking a Full Stack Developer to support a new product initiative within an engineering team partnering closely with actuarial and administrative stakeholders for a 15 month, 40 hour per week, contract role. The ideal candidate has experience developing applications from scratch, conducting technical research, and collaborating in environments with evolving requirements. Eligible candidates must be able to work onsite in Milwaukee 3 days per week.

Top Qualifications Needed

5+ years of professional full stack engineering experience, including having built applications from the ground up, preferably in the insurance, banking or finance space
Strong proficiency in React, Java Spring Boot, and/or Node.js, with deep knowledge of front-end tools (React, HTML5, CSS, functional components, hooks, Redux) and back-end frameworks (Node.js with JavaScript or TypeScript, or Java Spring Boot).
Demonstrated ability to work in iterative, agile environments, including conducting technical research, participating in frequent cross-functional meetings, and translating evolving business needs into engineering solutions.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience
Strong working knowledge of: React, HTML5, CSS, functional components, hooks, Redux Node.js (JavaScript or TypeScript) or Java Spring Boot
Experience with DevOps practices and Git
Experience building solutions using agile methodologies
Relational and non-relational database experience; Postgres and DynamoDB preferred
Experience developing, testing, and pushing code through development lifecycle stages
Experience with AWS or cloud-based environments
Familiarity with API development and integrations (internal and external)
Understanding of data flows from legacy systems, such as mainframes
Ability to perform peer reviews on design and code
Solid understanding of system design patterns and architectural concepts
Strong communication skills; able to collaborate with technical peers and business-side experts
UX/design familiarity or experience using tools like Figma (nice to have)
Comfortable working through ambiguity and contributing to solutioning and discovery work

Key Responsibilities

Develop a new internal application supporting annuity reinsurance processes, contributing to both front-end and back-end components.
Conduct technical research on tools, languages, integrations, and data storage approaches to support initial system design.
Participate in frequent meetings with engineering, actuarial, and administrative teams to refine requirements and design solutions.
Support iterative development cycles, including coding, testing, and moving updates through development and testing environments every 2-3 weeks.
Build integrations with internal systems, cloud services, and future third-party partners. Assist in moving data from mainframe systems into cloud-based solutions.
Collaborate closely with DevOps resources and follow Git-based workflows.
Contribute to architecture discussions to ensure long-term scalability, security, and system reliability.
Perform peer reviews on both design artifacts and resulting code.
Adapt to evolving requirements and maintain strong communication as the application's parameters are refined.
