Brief Description

Job SummaryUnder general direction and in compliance with standard operating procedures and policies, assists with designing and configuring local and wide area networks, wired and wireless networks, and voice networks. Regularly exercises a moderate level of discretion in the interpretation and application of policies, standard operating procedures and rules to determine appropriate courses of action in the performance of job responsibilities. Assists in addressing issues pertaining to network health monitoring, wired and wireless technologies, and voice systems. Assists in developing, monitoring, and implementing network security procedures. Provides assistance and documentation regarding installations, upgrades, and special projects. Provides advanced break/fix support on a wide variety of network-related hardware and software systems.

Provide Network Design & Configuration Assistance: Assist the Network/Security Engineer with designing and configuring local and wide area networks, wired and wireless networks, and voice networks. Manage the daily activities of local and wide area network systems, perform diagnostics, schedule preventative maintenance ensuring network systems are operational, and report systems faults to the Network/Security Engineer. Provide guidance and mentoring to Support Center Technicians for network events or issues. Assist with Cisco Unified Call Manager administration.

Assist in Implementing Security Procedures: Assist the Network/Security Engineer with developing, monitoring, and implementing network security procedures for the safeguard of all networking systems. Assist in maintaining City camera hardware and software to include troubleshooting, working directly with associated vendors, hardware expansion, and security awareness management.

30%

Perform Preventative Maintenance and Documentation: Assist the Network/Security Engineer with installing security patches, upgrading operating systems, and scheduling maintenance to minimize or avoid downtime. Maintain records of completed work and update network documentation to reflect installations, upgrades, and configurations. Manage network management programs and assist the Network/Security Engineer in preparing network status reports.

Qualifications

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field. A combination of an associate degree and at least two (2) years of related work experience may be substituted.
Over two (2) years of experience in an Information Technology field.

Preferred Qualifications

Significant experience working with networks.
CCST certification.
CCNA certification.
CyberOPS experience.
Network+ certification.
Security+ certification.
Cisco Security (SIEM tools).
Platform Architecture experience.

Driver's License Requirements

Valid South Carolina Class D Driver's License.

Performance RequirementsKnowledge of:

Network security procedures and health monitoring, wired and wireless technologies, and voice systems.
Present and emerging security threats that could threaten the City network.
City camera hardware and software.
Wide variety of network-related hardware and software systems.
Phishing and Security awareness.

Ability to:

Assist in maintaining City camera hardware and software to include troubleshooting, working directly with associated vendors, and hardware expansion.
Install security patches, upgrade operating systems, and schedule maintenance to minimize or avoid downtime.
Assist in developing, monitoring, and implementing network security procedures.
Manage the daily activities of local and wide area network systems, perform diagnostics, and schedule preventative maintenance ensuring network systems are operational.
Provide guidance and mentoring to Support Center Technicians.
Maintain the integrity and confidentiality of the City’s data and information systems.
Read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical journals, department policies, and other documents used by department.
Make mathematical calculations and draw logical conclusions.
Write general correspondence, emails, and maintain written records of completed work and update network documentation.
Operate general office equipment to include scanner, printer, copier, telephone, mobile phone, personal computer, laptop, tablet, associated software, servers, routers, and switches.
