The Role

Rakuten Kobo Inc. is seeking an experienced Business Intelligence Developer to evolve our reporting suite using Google BigQuery and visualization tools such as Tableau, Domo, or Looker. The evolution of our BI layer aims to grow from charts to stories and from reports to insights to enable effective and timely decision making based on data. This role will focus on creating a cohesive storytelling and insight generation environment that leverages centralized data assets as the single source of truth to inform business strategy and key priorities across Kobo.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain intuitive dashboards and reports in Tableau or similar BI tools, ensuring they are clean and multi-purpose where appropriate
Build and optimize SQL pipelines (Dataform) to generate reliable report sources and improve legacy logic.
Monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain existing dashboards and pipelines for performance and data quality.
Conduct ad hoc and deep-dive analyses to support business decisions and deliver actionable insights.
Gather requirements, prepare dashboard wireframes, document processes, and provide knowledge transfer and user support.
Recommend enhancements to reporting processes and stay current with BI best practices.

The Skill Set

Must-haves

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or related field.
5+ years of experience in BI development with a proven track record in building reports and dashboards.
Strong front-end BI development and visualization skills (preferably Tableau).
Proficient in SQL and ETL processes for KPI generation.
Familiarity with Google BigQuery.
Understanding of data modeling and performance optimization.

Nice to haves

Experience with Dataform (preferred) or dbt.
Knowledge of other BI tools (e.g., Looker, Domo).
Familiarity with cloud platforms (Google Cloud Platform preferred).
Experience with version control (Git) and analytics workflow automation.
