About PrePass

PrePass® is North America's most trusted weigh station bypass and toll management platform. We're transforming how the transportation industry operates—creating solutions that keep trucks moving safely, efficiently, and compliantly. This means making bold decisions and building scalable systems that support not only fleets but the broader economy. It all starts with enabling commercial vehicles to keep rolling through seamless toll management, weigh station bypass, and safety solutions. It's what we do best, and we do it to meet the demands of the road every day.

That's why people join us: our solutions operate in real time on highways and interstates across the nation, helping fleets go farther, faster. This work is high-impact and complex, requiring thoughtful leadership, strong execution, and a deep understanding of customer and business needs. We hire bold thinkers with a heart for impact, a passion for progress, and the optimism to shape the future of transportation.

Position Summary

As a Junior Hardware Engineer at PrePass, you will be involved in researching, evaluating, and testing new hardware components, systems, and devices. You will be a key player in building solution prototypes and proofs of concept by validating hardware performance and ensuring its suitability for PrePass applications. You will leverage your understanding of electronics, systems engineering, computer networking and testing methodologies while collaborating closely with software engineers and cross-functional teams to integrate, test, and validate complete hardware/software solutions. This is a fantastic opportunity for a recent graduate or someone with limited experience looking to expand their skill set in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities

Hardware Research and Evaluation: Research, identify, and evaluate suitable hardware components, systems, and devices (e.g., RFID, LPR cameras, sensors, compute devices) for new and existing PrePass solutions
Test Plan and Execution: Create comprehensive lab and field test plans. Execute hands-on testing of hardware and integrated solutions to validate performance, reliability, and environmental resilience
Prototyping and Integration: Work closely with software engineers to integrate hardware components, develop working prototypes, and create proofs of concept (PoCs) for new initiatives
Lab Management: Assist in managing the hardware integration lab in Phoenix, including equipment setup, component inventory, and maintaining a safe and organized test environment
Collaboration: Work closely with engineers and other stakeholders to understand solution requirements, define hardware specifications, and ensure successful integration with software systems
Documentation: Produce clear, concise technical documentation, including evaluation reports, test plans, test results, and integration guides
Agile Collaboration: Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies, contributing to sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives to support the development lifecycle
