Position Overview

Scouting America is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented IT Business Analyst I to join our Information Technology team. This role serves as a liaison between the business community and the Information Technology organization responsible for providing technical solutions to meet client needs and support organizational strategy and operational excellence.

The IT Business Analyst I works closely with assigned business units to gain knowledge of the business unit(s) they support, as well as an understanding of the organization’s systems and capabilities while partnering with assigned business areas to support smaller-scale initiatives and less complex projects. This role evaluates current operations to identify strengths, gaps, and opportunities for process improvement and automation; assists in redesigning business processes and documenting workflows to support new or enhanced technology solutions, while translating high-level business requirements into detailed functional specifications for the Information Technology team. You will have the opportunity to manage updates and changes to functional requirements throughout the project lifecycle to ensure accuracy and alignment. The IT Business Analyst I reports to the Manager, Software Development & APIs.

Responsibilities

Manages and facilitates the intake of issues reported by users by analyzing, validating, and clarifying problem statements; translate confirmed issues into well‑structured user stories and acceptance criteria that enable development teams to efficiently remediate defects and deliver improvements.
Produces clear, detailed functional specifications to be used by the design and development team.
Evaluates information gathered from multiple sources, reconciles conflicts, decomposes high-level information into details, abstract up from low-level information to a general understanding, and distinguishes user requests from business needs.
Proactively communicates and collaborates with external and internal customers to analyze information needs and deliver functional requirements; business requirements; use cases; GUI screen and interface designs.
Collaborates with developers and subject matter experts to establish the technical vision and analyzes tradeoffs between usability and performance needs.
Acquires knowledge of current technology trends in the marketplace.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Competencies

Knowledge of: Business analysis methodologies and best practices; strong understanding of IT systems and infrastructure; relevant industry trends and technologies; business process modeling tools; data analysis and visualization techniques.
Skill in: Interpersonal communication; presenting complex technical concepts to diverse audiences; analysis and problem-solving; creating functional specifications; collaboration and teamwork; accuracy and attention to detail.
Ability to: Break down complex problems into manageable tasks; gather and document business IT requirements; manage change and navigate ambiguity; translate business needs into technical requirements; prioritize work and manage multiple deadlines; effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences; learn new technologies and concepts quickly.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration or a related field from an accredited college or university.

Qualifications

Minimum of three (3) years of experience in ­­­­­IT business analysis or a related field.
Must pass a criminal history background check.

Any work-related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above-specified education and experience requirements.

Preference

ServiceNow Experience preferred.
