MI Data Analyst

The MI Data Analyst will report to the AVP, Senior Risk Management Reporting Analyst and will be responsible for overseeing the operating model that supports the aggregation of financial and non-financial data used in the Group’s risk management reporting processes. The MI Data Analyst coordinates the production of several group and legal entity-level risk reports, and will partner with internal data source providers and risk stakeholders across the business to complete data investigations and resolve data quality issues. This role provides an opportunity to understand enterprise risk management principles for a multi-jurisdictional financial institution and the critical risk measures used to manage risk exposures.

About the Team

Butterfield Group’s Enterprise Risk Analytics team is a data-driven function dedicated to maintaining a robust risk management framework across our international jurisdictions. We play a critical role in identifying, scoring, and monitoring diverse risks including operational, credit, compliance, market, and regulatory exposures to ensure they remain within the Board-approved Statement of Risk Appetite. Our current goal is to transform raw data into clear, accurate, and timely strategic intelligence for leadership and stakeholders, helping the Group anticipate challenges and seize opportunities.

Your responsibilities will include:

Interpreting data and analysing results using statistical techniques and contributing to the development of reports.
Developing processes for gathering structured and unstructured data for future analytic projects.
Leveraging the Enterprise Data Warehouse to identify & fix data quality issues.
Identifying, analysing, and interpreting trends or patterns in complex data sets.
Designing and implementing Extract, Load, Transform (ELT) processes required to collect and transform large datasets for reporting, analytics and predictive modelling.
Partnering with internal stakeholders to prioritise business and information needs.
Designing, building and maintaining advanced Power BI dashboards for Risk Reporting.
Writing complex SQL queries and structuring raw data for visualisation and data product layers.
Collaborating with other risk managers and departments on reporting and evaluation techniques to support the collection and interpretation of risk management data.
Performing quality assurance and essential audit checks to ensure accuracy of reviews.
Maintaining documentation for data models, data products, risk related analytical processes.
Contributing to the development of reporting strategies for Executive Management, Board and Regulators including the population of the board decks with appropriate visuals.
Preparing risk reports, including key risk indicators, risk appetite metrics, summaries, and presentations to communicate findings to key organisational stakeholder, including Group, subsidiary, and parent boards.
Automating data refresh schedules and reporting workflows to replace manual Excel-based processes.
Ensuring end-to end reliability, monitoring and sustainability of automated pipelines.
Ensuring all internal data handling complies with Butterfields security, privacy and compliance standards.
Performing other job-related duties as assigned.

Your qualifications and skills include:

Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering or a related quantitative field.
Minimum of 4 years’ experience in data analytics and reporting.
Knowledge in the Extract, Load, Transform (ELT) process.
Advanced proficiency in Structured Query Language (SQL) (windows functions, CTEs, stored procedures) with a demonstrated ability to write complex queries, optimize performance and work with relational databases.
Knowledge in programming skills (e.g. Python) and/or other data analysis programs.
Expert level skills in Power BI, including DAX, Power Query and managing workspaces/gateways.
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
Ability to collect, organize, analyse and disseminate significant amounts of information
Advanced Microsoft Excel for data manipulation, analysis, and reporting.
Strong stakeholder management skills.
Organizational skills with proven ability meet deadlines and prioritize tasks.
Experience in financial operations, banking environment or Risk Reporting functions is considered an asset.
