About the Role
As a Senior Java Developer, you will actively participate in Scrum team dynamics, implementing pre-analyzed developments and executing unit tests from the start of each user story. You will work in close collaboration with functional analysts and testers, ensuring anticipation, technical accuracy, quality focus, organizational flexibility, and strong inter-team communication.
As a senior consultant, you will also mentor junior colleagues and facilitate knowledge transfer within the team.
You will contribute to a strategic transformation project in which a monolithic application — including externally developed modules — is being rewritten into a microservices-based architecture. The application operates in a banking-like environment (payments, bills, refunds) and includes accounting functionalities.
You will be assigned to one of the priority domains:
Accounting management
Transaction & order management
Rules management
Interface management
An internal Lead Developer oversees transversal coordination of developments, while lead testers provide integration testing guidelines. The organization also benefits from a dedicated QA&C team and a broader developer network.
Responsibilities
Actively participate in Agile Scrum ceremonies and team dynamics
Collaborate with functional analysts and testers from the beginning of each user story
Implement analyzed and validated developments
Develop and execute unit tests
Contribute to integration testing in coordination with lead testers
Ensure technical accuracy, high-quality deliverables, and adherence to QA guidelines
Support the transformation from monolithic architecture to microservices
Coordinate with the internal Lead Developer for transversal development alignment
Follow QA&C guidelines and best practices
Communicate effectively across teams and stakeholders
Mentor and transfer knowledge to junior developers
Technical Skills (Mandatory)
Minimum 10+ years of experience as a Java Developer with strong expertise in:
Java, REST APIs (BELGIF), asynchronous messaging (command/reply & event-driven architecture)
Source code management (Git), DB2 & SQL
Spring Boot, Angular
DevOps tools (Kubernetes, ArgoCD, Vault, GitLab)
Agile Scrum methodology, Windows & Linux environments
UML, JSON & XML formats
Technical Skills (Useful)
Experience with the below technologies/tools is a plus:
WebLogic, ELK stack
Atlassian Suite (Jira, Confluence)
Development tools: IntelliJ, Visual Studio Code, Eclipse, NetBeans
GitHub, Fisheye, ActiveMQ, Cucumber
Other Professional Skills
Fluency in Dutch or French, along with proficiency in English.
Proactive, quality-oriented mindset with a positive attitude
Ability to advise partners, contribute to group reflection, and communicate effectively
Strong knowledge-sharing and mentoring capability
