The Opportunity

Michelin Mobility Intelligence (MMI) is seeking an exceptional Principal Data Scientist to join our team! At MMI, we leverage our expertise in data analysis and driver behavior insights to develop solutions that enable smarter, safer, and greener mobility. Our work provides actionable intelligence to transportation and fleet stakeholders, helping them make proactive, informed decisions to improve road safety and operational efficiency.

As a Principal Data Scientist, you will play a key role in designing, building, and testing innovative data and AI-driven products and services for our customers—including engineering firms, departments of transportation, universities, and research institutes. Through telematics and advanced analytics, you will help transform data into meaningful insights that create real-world impact.

To qualify for the role, you must have:

PhD in Transportation and Infrastructure Engineering, Data Science, Mathematics or related fields (preferred), or a Master’s degree with 3–5 years of industry experience focusing on transportation and infrastructure engineering.
Deep expertise across AI disciplines, such as: Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Natural Language Processing (NLP), Speech‑to‑Text, Computer Vision
Demonstrated research excellence, with the ability to design cutting‑edge AI solutions from concept to prototype.
Exceptional proficiency in advanced Python programming for AI development.
Hands‑on experience with modern AI frameworks, libraries, and design patterns (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face, etc.).
Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across technical and non‑technical teams.
Background in Road Safety and Geospatial Analytics, would be considered a strong advantage.

What You Will Do

Understand and address current customer needs by delivering relevant solutions to mobility challenges.
Apply data analytics to visualize results and inform the development of next-generation data services.
Drive R&D initiatives to develop future data products leveraging Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
Design, fit, and evaluate Machine Learning, Advanced Analytics, and Statistical models to solve complex business problems.
Present results and model performance (including limitations) to stakeholders and lead technical discussions for continuous improvement.
Provide strategic guidance and technical leadership to the Michelin Mobility Intelligence Data Science and Engineering teams.
Foster collaboration across disciplines to ensure alignment on project goals, technical standards, and innovation strategies.
Mentor team members, promote best practices in data science and engineering, and drive continuous improvement in methodologies and tools.

Experience analyzing results and conducting research on customer use cases to meet evolving needs.
Proficiency in Python and SQL for statistical modeling and data analysis.
Ability to process and extract insights from large, heterogeneous, and unstructured datasets to optimize offerings and processes.
Communication & Decision Support Expertise
Translate business requirements into statistical models and actionable insights.
Analyze results, identify trends, and recommend strategies based on data-driven findings.
Communicate complex results in a clear, accessible format using data visualization tools for decision-makers
