Job Description
Job Title: Data Engineer – SQL, dbt Role Summary: Senior Data Engineer responsible for migrating and optimizing dbt models within a GCP environment for a Retail Banking data transformation project. Focuses exclusively on the transform layer, delivering resilient, high‑quality data projections and ensuring production‑grade quality through CI/CD, testing, and infrastructure automation. Expactations: - Complete end‑to‑end migration of existing dbt models to a new data‑modeling strategy. - Deliver scalable, maintainable dimensional models that meet regulatory and governance standards. - Work collaboratively with stakeholders, model owners, and source‑system teams to ensure seamless data integration. - Maintain and improve automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code. Key Responsibilities: - Decompose complex data projections and design robust dimensional models. - Develop, optimise, and refactor dbt models and SQL queries. - Implement automated testing (TDD) and CI/CD pipelines for data workflows. - Configure and manage GCP resources (BigQuery, Cloud Storage, etc.). - Write Terraform/Ansible scripts to provision infrastructure. - Conduct peer reviews, code quality audits, and stakeholder presentations. - Ensure compliance with data governance, security, and regulatory requirements. Required Skills: - Advanced SQL proficiency, including optimisation techniques (indexing, partitioning). - Deep experience with dbt (modeling, testing, version control). - Strong data‑modeling fundamentals and scalable architecture design. - Familiarity with GCP BigQuery; experience in AWS/Azure acceptable. - Proficient with Git, TDD, CI/CD concepts, and infrastructure‑as‑code tools (Terraform/Ansible). - Consulting mindset: collaborative, influences stakeholders, seeks peer review. - Prior experience in Retail Banking or financial services highly desirable.
