Job title: System Administrator
Role Summary:
Full‑stack system administrator for a 6‑month contract-to-hire role. Provides end‑to‑end support across Linux, macOS, and Windows environments, handles escalated help‑desk issues, performs maintenance, upgrades, migrations to Microsoft 365 and Azure, and enforces NIST 800‑171 compliance.
Expectations:
* Act independently with minimal supervision.
* Adapt quickly to new technologies and shifting priorities.
* Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date documentation.
* Communicate clearly with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
* Use project tracking tools to monitor task progress and resolve setbacks.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Administer Linux (FreeBSD), macOS, and Windows Server/Workstation systems.
2. Troubleshoot and resolve escalated computer, server, and network issues.
3. Plan, schedule, and execute software updates, patches, backups, and routine maintenance across all platforms.
4. Document configurations, processes, and project steps in a central repository.
5. Collaborate with senior administrators on system improvements, security hardening, and infrastructure projects.
6. Implement new systems and support IT projects, including hybrid and cloud deployments.
7. Migrate on‑premises tools to Microsoft 365 and Azure environments, ensuring data integrity and availability.
8. Monitor backups, test disaster‑recovery procedures, and maintain recovery plans.
9. Respond to IT security incidents, enforce security policies, and report compliance status.
10. Evaluate and recommend hardware/software purchases and emerging technologies.
11. Use project tracking and reporting tools to inform stakeholders of progress and risks.
Required Skills:
* Cross‑platform system administration (Linux/FreeBSD, Windows Server, Active Directory).
* Desktop support for macOS and Windows.
* Advanced troubleshooting, configuration, and performance tuning.
* Knowledge of Microsoft 365, Azure, and cloud migration strategies.
* Familiarity with device and asset management tools.
* Understanding of NIST 800‑171 and related compliance frameworks.
* Strong written and verbal communication.
* Ability to learn new technologies rapidly.
Required Education & Certifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in Information Science, Computer Science, or related field, **OR** 1–3 years equivalent experience in systems administration/IT support.
* Certifications are a plus: CompTIA Server+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, or similar.
