Job Description
**Job Title:** Equipment Operator – Operations Department, Roads Division **Role Summary:** Operate light, medium, and heavy construction and maintenance equipment to perform public works tasks, including road maintenance, repairs, construction, and winter control. Work independently within a fast‑paced team while adhering to all safety regulations. **Expectations:** - Reliable, punctual, and self‑motivated operator. - Adherence to safety protocols, legal requirements, and company policies. - Ability to handle a variety of equipment and tasks with minimal supervision. **Key Responsibilities:** - Operate and maintain standard transmission tandem dump trucks, loaders/backhoes, snowplows/sanders, tractors, chainsaws, weed eaters, and other hand tools. - Perform maintenance, repair, and construction duties related to public works. - Conduct winter control operations as assigned. - Follow all applicable safety standards, including OHS Act, Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7, and county policies. - Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors. - Complete other duties as assigned by the Road Superintendent. **Required Skills:** - Proficient technical and mechanical knowledge. - Strong verbal and written communication skills. - Ability to work independently in a fast‑paced environment. - Demonstrated safe work practices. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Secondary school diploma or equivalent education/experience combination. - Valid Class D driver’s license with Z endorsement and acceptable abstract. **Assets (Preferred):** - Experience operating a road grader. - Knowledge of public works operations.
