Job Description
**Job Title:** Remote Hands Technician (Independent Contractor) **Role Summary:** Provide on‑site data‑center support at Equinix LA3 as the primary “boots‑on‑the‑ground” technician. Execute hardware installation, troubleshooting, cabling, and documentation tasks while coordinating in real time with NOC/support teams. Work as a 1099 contractor with variable monthly hours (≈70‑120 hrs) and required AM/PM availability for scheduled and urgent assignments. **Expectations:** - Dedicated long‑term engagement with flexible onsite schedule. - Ability to respond quickly to urgent tickets, acknowledge receipt, and arrive onsite within a self‑defined SLA (AM/PM coverage). - Real‑time communication via chat, ticketing system, and email; provide concise updates with photos and timestamps. - Meet all site security and NDA requirements; operate as an independent business invoicing for services. **Key Responsibilities:** - Rack/stack equipment, install or swap rail kits, and decommission hardware. - Diagnose and replace components (drives, PSUs, fans, NICs); reseat devices and perform basic troubleshooting. - Perform copper/fiber/DAC/AOC cabling, labeling, cable management, and port mapping. - Conduct crash‑cart/console work; assist with iDRAC, IPMI, iLO tasks as needed. - Conduct visual inspections, capture serial/MAC data, take photos, and update inventory. - Receive deliveries, stage equipment, coordinate returns and RMAs. - Execute Method of Procedures (MOPs) and maintain clean, timestamped ticket updates with evidence. - Coordinate with support/NOC teams in real time; provide clear, brief status reports. **Required Skills:** - Proven experience as a Remote Hands or Data‑Center Technician (Equinix experience preferred). - Hands‑on competency with server platforms (Dell, Supermicro, HPE). - Strong cabling discipline and neat work standards. - Ability to diagnose and replace hardware components; basic Linux/network troubleshooting. - Excellent written communication: concise updates, accurate documentation, and photo evidence. - Reliable availability for both regular business hours and occasional early/late tasks. - Familiarity with high‑throughput networking (10/25/40/100 Gbps) and structured change‑control processes is a plus. **Required Education & Certifications:** - High school diploma or equivalent (GED). - Technical certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+, Server+, or vendor‑specific certifications) preferred but not mandatory. - Any required site‑specific security clearances or certifications will be obtained by the contractor.
