About the Company

The Science and Technology Facilities Council is keeping the UK at the forefront of international science and tackling some of the most significant challenges facing society such as meeting our future energy needs, monitoring and understanding climate change, and global security.

The Council has a broad science portfolio and works with the academic and industrial communities to share its expertise in materials science, space and ground-based astronomy technologies, laser science, microelectronics, wafer scale manufacturing, particle and nuclear physics, alternative energy production, radio communications and radar.

STFC has 5 main UK sites:
Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL), Daresbury Laboratory (DL), UK Astronomy Technology Centre (UKATC), Chilbolton Observatory and Boulby Underground Laboratory.

STFC operates or hosts world class experimental facilities including:
• In the UK; ISIS Neutron and Muon Source, the Central Laser Facility and RAL Space. STFC is also the majority shareholder in Diamond Light Source Ltd.
• Overseas; telescopes on La Palma and Hawaii

STFC enables UK researchers to access leading international science facilities by funding membership of international bodies including European Laboratory for Particle Physics (CERN), the Institut Laue Langevin (ILL), European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) and the European Southern Observatory (ESO).

STFC is one of seven publicly-funded research councils and is part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). It is an independent, non-departmental public body of the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS).

**Job title** Computing Support Analyst **Role Summary** Deliver first‑line IT support to users across Windows, Mac, mobile devices and printers. Resolve software, hardware and networking issues via phone, email, in‑person, and the ticketing system. Assist with hardware refreshes, onboarding of new staff, and participate in ongoing IT projects. Document fixes, procedures and maintain knowledge base to improve service consistency. Escalate complex incidents to senior technicians. **Expectations** - Full‑time, 1‑year fixed‑term contract. - Provide efficient, secure, customer‑focused service. - Work independently and collaboratively on‑site. - Maintain high communication standards and a proactive attitude toward learning new projects. **Key Responsibilities** - Respond to user requests; troubleshoot and resolve daily IT issues. - Install, upgrade and maintain PCs/laptops. - Onboard new hires and configure workstations. - Support devices across Windows, Mac, mobile, and printers. - Use ticketing system to log, investigate and close tickets. - Document solutions and update procedures. - Escalate unresolved issues to specialists. - Participate in IT projects and system enhancements. **Required Skills** - Excellent written and verbal communication. - Proficiency in PC and Mac hardware troubleshooting. - Strong knowledge of Microsoft Desktop products. - Ability to support users both remotely and in person. - Experience with ticketing/issue tracking systems. - Competent written documentation of fixes, procedures and knowledge base entries. **Required Education & Certifications** - Minimum 5 GCSEs with grades C/4 or above, including Maths, English and a STEM subject. ---
