Salary: Band C £30,895 per annum.

About RAL Space
RAL Space is a department of the Science and Technology Facilities Council, part of the UK Research and Innovation. We have 60 years of experience and expertise in space programmes. Our scientists, engineers, technicians work through the complete life cycle of space missions: leading concept studies for future missions; designing and building instruments; providing space test and ground-based facilities; operating ground stations; processing and analysing data. RAL Space IT Services is a busy team providing customer and infrastructure support to RAL Space and across STFC. There is a wide range of areas to get involved in and learn about. We deliver world-class science research and technology development with involvement in over 200 instruments in space. We work with UK and overseas agencies, universities and industrial companies on space and ground-based space projects. Our unique position between industry and academia enables us to strengthen the UK space community.
Key Responsibilities
Providing first-line support to users — in person, over the phone, and via email — helping staff resolve everyday IT issues.
Getting involved in new and ongoing IT projects.
Using our ticketing system to investigate and troubleshoot software, hardware and networking problems.
Installing and upgrading PCs and laptops as part of our hardware refresh and support activities.
Onboarding new starters, helping them get set up and ready to work from day one.
Offering general support across Windows, Mac, mobile devices and printers.
Document fixes and procedures to improve team knowledge and consistency.
Escalate complex issues to senior technicians or specialists when needed.
Working independently and collaboratively on-site, ensuring efficient, secure and customer-focused IT service delivery.
Person Specification
(Please note the below criteria will be assessed at Shortlisting or Interview stage as indicated)
Achieved - 5 GCSE passes at Grade C/4 or above including Maths, English and a STEM subject. (S)
Excellent communication skills, as demonstrated in your CV, covering letter and interview (S&I)
Demonstrable knowledge of - or enthusiasm for – various aspects of computing. Your CV and cover letter should give example(s) of any personal, school or work-based projects that involved learning about and using IT and/or hardware, and what you enjoyed. (S)
Demonstrable knowledge of PC/Mac computer hardware (S&I)
Demonstrable knowledge of Microsoft Desktop Products (S&I)
The ability to provide support both in person and remotely (S&I)
