Platform Engineering Manager (Contract, Financial Services)
About the Role
We are working on behalf of a leading Financial Services client to hire a Platform Engineering Manager on a 6-month contract (likely to extend). The role is London-based with flexible working options, but candidates must be able to attend the office when required. This position is inside IR35.
The Enterprise Engineering function is building Governance as a Service (GaaS) -- an event-driven architecture in AWS designed to detect and respond to non-compliant events across both on-premise and cloud estates. This initiative is a cornerstone of the client's governance strategy, enabling the codification of controls, automation of responses, and scalable governance across the enterprise.
We are seeking a hands-on Platform Engineering Manager to lead technical delivery, shape the platform architecture, and coordinate teams to deliver practical, secure, and enterprise-ready outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
Work with the Security Lead to define specifications, architecture, and code design.
Provide guidance on the design of internal developer platforms, ensuring secure, scalable, and reusable solutions.
Promote modern engineering practices, including TDD and pair programming.
Engineering & Delivery
Convert technology process standards into policies as code and integrate them into GaaS through APIs and automation.
Build scalable automation frameworks using AWS, Python, Terraform, and CI/CD tooling.
Ensure GaaS integrates seamlessly into enterprise systems and workflows.
People & Vendor Management
Manage and onboard engineering resources from Nagarro and FWDView, planning and prioritising work.
Mentor and coach engineers within the team.
Foster collaboration, high performance, and continuous improvement.
Governance & Strategy Alignment
Translate governance objectives into actionable outcomes aligned with enterprise priorities.
Embed GaaS into day-to-day engineering practices across teams.
Advocate for automation, repeatability, and scalability in governance practices.
Skills & Experience
Proven experience as a Platform Engineering Manager, Technical Lead, or Principal Engineer in an enterprise environment.
Strong expertise in cloud engineering (AWS, Terraform, Python, CI/CD pipelines).
Hands-on experience with event-driven architectures and internal developer platforms.
Experience integrating security and compliance requirements into engineering solutions (policy-as-code, controls automation).
Understanding of enterprise technology governance frameworks.
Experience leading or managing third-party/vendor engineering teams.
Excellent collaboration and communication skills across business, security, and engineering teams.
