Our client is seeking an experienced Director, Internal Audit to support a large Canadian financial services portfolio on a contract basis. This role partners closely with senior leadership to assess risk, execute audits, and strengthen governance and control environments.

Principal tasks and responsibilities include:

· Provide leadership and oversight for internal audit activities across a large, complex portfolio.
· Plan, lead, and execute end-to-end audit engagements in line with professional standards.
· Assess the effectiveness of governance, risk management, and internal control frameworks.
· Partner with senior stakeholders to deliver risk-based insights and practical recommendations.
· Review audit findings, validate management action plans, and monitor remediation progress.
· Support regulatory and compliance-related audits as required.
· Coach and guide audit team members to drive performance and collaboration.
· Prepare clear, concise reporting and presentations for senior management and audit committees.

A large, complex financial services organization operating in Canada.

Qualifications and pre-requisites:

· CPA, CIA, CISA, or similar professional designation strongly preferred.
· 5-7+ years of experience in internal audit, risk management, or assurance within a large organization.
· Prior experience operating at a senior manager or director level.
· Strong knowledge of audit standards, risk assessment methodologies, and internal control frameworks.
· Experience working in matrixed environments with multiple senior stakeholders.
· Strong communication, influencing, and stakeholder-management skills.
· Ability to work independently and deliver results in a fast-paced, time-bound setting.
· Familiarity with control frameworks such as COSO and COBIT.
