CSI Companies is seeking an experienced Mainframe Developer with strong COBOL and z/OS expertise to support enterprise-scale investment and retirement systems. This role requires a senior-level professional with hands-on development experience, technical leadership capabilities, and a strong background in high-volume mainframe environments. The ideal candidate will bring deep knowledge of core mainframe technologies and a proven ability to support mission-critical production systems.

Hours: Monday-Friday 40 hours/week, standard business hours

Location: Hybrid in Malvern, PA 19355

Pay: $37+/hour based on relevant experience, education, and credentials

Position Type: Contract – No C2C

Work Authorization:

Visas are acceptable (any EAD). Candidates must be eligible to work on W2 and must not require sponsorship for at least 6–12 months.

What you’ll do:

As a Senior Mainframe Developer, you will provide technical leadership and hands-on development support for enterprise-scale mainframe applications supporting Investment and Retirement platforms. You will play a key role in solution design, system optimization, and production stability while mentoring team members and collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders.

Key responsibilities include:

Technical Leadership & Design: Architect, design, and implement scalable and high-performing mainframe solutions. Lead code reviews and maintain technical documentation aligned with enterprise standards.
Development & Maintenance: Perform expert-level development and support using COBOL, JCL, VSAM, DB2, CICS, and IMS. Enhance existing applications and develop new functionality to meet business requirements.
System Performance & Production Support: Monitor system performance, optimize batch processing, manage job scheduling, and troubleshoot complex production incidents.
Project Delivery & Agile Execution: Partner with Agile teams to deliver high-quality solutions. Participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, and stakeholder discussions to clarify technical requirements.
Mentorship & Best Practices: Provide guidance to junior developers, promote coding standards, and ensure adherence to development best practices.

What we’re looking for:

5–8 years of experience in mainframe development
1–2 years of senior-level or lead experience
Experience using debugging and analysis tools such as Xpediter and File-Aid
Experience supporting production environments and resolving complex incidents
Strong understanding of batch processing and system performance tuning
Experience working in Agile development environments
Domain experience within Investment and Retirement services
Strong hands-on expertise in:
z/OS
COBOL
JCL
DB2
CICS
VSAM
IMS
REXX

Nice to have:

Experience with large-scale enterprise modernization initiatives
Exposure to API integrations between mainframe and distributed systems
Knowledge of DevOps practices within mainframe environments
Experience working with financial services regulatory requirements
Prior experience in highly regulated financial or retirement systems environments
