Position Summary
The Better Giveback Foundation is entering a pivotal moment of growth and transition. We are evolving our leadership model to include a Co-Executive Director structure, which will be shared with our organization’s founder, who will continue to serve as Co-Executive Director of Programs & Operations. This newly created role—Co-Executive Director of Development & Community Relations—represents a unique opportunity to help shape the future of the organization alongside the person who has nurtured its vision from the start.
This is a deeply relational and strategic leadership role for someone who brings humility, strong interpersonal awareness, and a collaborative spirit. The incoming Co-Executive Director will need to navigate the leadership transition, building trust with the founder, Board, team, and community stakeholders. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator and connector—capable of stewarding external relationships and leading fundraising and community engagement efforts with authenticity, passion, and care.
You’ll also assist in overseeing special initiatives that align with our strategic goals, helping to pilot innovative ideas that increase our impact and visibility. This role will work closely to guide, support, and activate a committed network of volunteers and partners to bring our mission to life.
This is a 12 month, optional live-on position, in order to directly immerse and provide general oversight to our Glassboro, NJ resource hub.
Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Leadership & Collaboration (25%)
Co-lead the organization alongside the Founder & Co-Executive Director of Programs & Operations, sharing responsibility for vision-setting, strategic planning, and organizational culture
Work closely with the Board’s Development & Community Relations Committee to shape and guide fundraising and community development efforts
Support and inspire a team of volunteers and committee members to carry out tactical elements of fundraising and community-building work
Build a culture of shared leadership, transparency, and accountability across teams and committees
Fund Development & Stewardship (40%)
Design and oversee implementation of an organizationally inclusive fundraising strategy with input from volunteer teams and the Board
Cultivate and maintain relationships with individual donors, foundations, and institutional partners
Guide the committee and volunteers in organizing fundraising campaigns, donor events, and appeals
Write and oversee grants, reports, and donor communications—with support from volunteer writers or consultants
Oversee the tracking and reporting on fundraising progress, donor engagement, and revenue goals
Community Engagement & External Communications (25%)
Represent the organization in the broader community, including at public events, community meetings, and coalition tables
Support and coach volunteers and ambassadors to represent the organization in diverse spaces
Oversee communications strategy and content creation (social media, newsletters, storytelling)—with support from committee members or consultants
Build partnerships with local organizations, businesses, and civic leaders to increase visibility and collaboration
Board & Governance Support (10%)
Report regularly to the Board and support the Development & Community Relations Committee in fulfilling its governance responsibilities
Participate in Board meetings, strategic planning meetings, and donor engagement efforts
Qualifications
Proven experience, education, or clearly transferable skills relevant to nonprofit development, community engagement, or communications (3+ years preferred)
Strong interpersonal skills and a passion for working collaboratively in leadership and with volunteers and community members
Demonstrated success in donor cultivation, grant writing, and campaign design
Excellent communication skills—written, verbal, and digital
Committed to equity, community empowerment, and inclusive practices
Experience managing or working alongside committees or volunteer teams
Comfortable in a shared leadership or co-directorship model
