Solution Architect – Control Centre Tower (SysOps & Markets)

Wokingham (Office-based)

6-Month Contract

£Inside I35 negotiable

We are seeking an experienced Solution Architect to support the design and delivery of robust, scalable, and secure solutions within a Control Centre Tower environment across Systems Operations (SysOps) & Markets.

This is a high-impact role working at the intersection of Operational Technology (OT) and Enterprise IT, supporting mission-critical systems within a complex and regulated industry environment.

The Role

As Solution Architect, you will:

Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather functional and non-functional requirements.
Design end-to-end architectural solutions integrating OT and IT systems.
Lead technical design and architectural governance across operational and market systems.
Conduct risk assessments and technical impact analysis for new initiatives.
Support vendor evaluations and proof-of-concept activities.
Provide architectural leadership throughout the delivery lifecycle.

You will ensure solutions are secure, scalable, compliant, and aligned with enterprise standards and industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Technology (OT)

Deep expertise in Industrial Control Systems (ICS) and SCADA environments.
Integration of OT systems with enterprise IT platforms.

Cybersecurity

Implementation of OT cybersecurity controls including:
Network segmentation
Firewalls
IDS/IPS
Compliance with relevant security standards

Architecture & Design

Apply enterprise architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF).
Define solution patterns, standards, and governance.
Design secure data flows between operational and enterprise systems.

Infrastructure & Platforms

Strong networking knowledge (TCP/IP, DNS, BGP, VPNs, firewalls).
Experience with on-prem virtualisation (VMWare ESXi).
Red Hat Linux (including bare-metal deployments).
Public cloud experience (preferably Microsoft Azure).

Modern Engineering Practices

Microservices architecture.
Kubernetes (Rancher advantageous).
CI/CD and GitOps methodologies.
Monitoring & observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Syslog).

Industry-Specific Experience

Experience within Energy or Utilities is highly desirable.
Exposure to System Operators (ESO, DNOs, TOs).
Knowledge of:
SCADA / EMS / ADMS
IEC101, IEC104, IEC 870-5
ICCP / TASE.2
OSI model and communication frameworks
Familiarity with Powertech DSA tools and data historian platforms (e.g., eDNA).

Your Profile

10+ years’ experience as a Solution Architect in complex enterprise environments.
Proven track record designing large-scale, secure, integrated solutions.
Strong leadership capability across cross-functional technical teams.
Experience aligning architecture with compliance, regulatory and operational standards.
