Job Specifications

Duties & Responsibilities

Facilitates the patient flow for admissions, discharges and transfers
Ensures bed assignment is performed as per Bed Management and Bed Borrowing Policies
Provides accurate bed availability information for appropriate bed placement to Nursing Units, Managers and Physicians
Articulates the Policies and Procedures regarding bed assignment to Nursing Units and Physicians as required
Assigns CMG & LOS upon admission
Responsible for the opening and closure of beds according to administrative plans.
Consults with units on an ongoing basis for discharges and to provide information regarding admissions to the unit
Ensures the accuracy of discharge and transfer functions performed by the Nursing units.
Monitors and corrects patient service information in the registration system
Pre-registers/registers patients for inpatient, outpatient and emergency visits quickly with the utmost in customer service.
Collects insurance and accommodation information and payment for services where applicable.
Collects payment for patient telephone services as required.
Completes Absence Reporting Form when staff calls in sick and finds replacements when possible
Responds to inquiries made by patients and visitors.
Responds to telephone inquiries and forwards calls where appropriate
Assists with other tasks as required in Patient Registration and Access & Flow Services

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have previous data entry experience
Knowledge of medical terminology is required
Current or recent registration/admitting/bed allocation experience in a hospital setting required
Excellent interpersonal, communication (oral and written) and organizational skills
Ability to prioritize duties, problem solve and accurately carry out detailed work in a fast paced environment.
Must have facility in working with numbers and must be detailed oriented
Demonstrated ability to interact with others in a co-operative, facilitative and pleasant manner through all circumstances
Must have an excellent punctuality and attendance record
