Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Modeler to support a leading banking client in Toronto. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in data modeling, data design, data mapping, and hands-on development experience with SQL and Python. This role requires deep knowledge of financial data structures, regulatory considerations, and enterprise data architecture best practices.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop conceptual, logical, and physical data models for enterprise data platforms
Collaborate with business stakeholders, data architects, and engineering teams to define data requirements
Perform detailed data mapping between source and target systems
Create and maintain data dictionaries, metadata repositories, and data lineage documentation
Optimize and validate database structures for performance and scalability
Develop and maintain complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and scripts
Use Python for data analysis, transformation, validation, and automation tasks
Support data governance, data quality, and regulatory compliance initiatives
Participate in architecture reviews and ensure alignment with enterprise standards
Work within banking domain data including risk, finance, regulatory, and customer data
Required Qualifications
8+ years of experience in Data Modeling and Data Design
Strong expertise in creating conceptual, logical, and physical data models
Extensive experience in Data Mapping and ETL processes
Advanced proficiency in SQL (query optimization, performance tuning, complex joins)
Hands-on experience with Python for data manipulation and scripting
Experience working in large enterprise data warehouse environments
Strong understanding of relational databases (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, Snowflake)
Experience with data modeling tools (e.g., ERwin, ER/Studio, PowerDesigner)
Banking or financial services industry experience is mandatory
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with cloud data platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
Knowledge of data governance frameworks and regulatory reporting
Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
Understanding of risk, compliance, or regulatory data in banking
