Job Specifications
Edge Engineer (Networking, Security & Performance)
About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Edge Engineer to help design, build, and operate the systems that sit closest to our customers. This role focuses on ensuring our digital experiences are fast, reliable, secure, and globally scalable through modern edge infrastructure.
You will work closely with engineering, product, and platform teams to support content delivery, traffic routing, and application security using CDN and edge platforms such as Akamai and AWS. The role combines operational ownership with continuous improvement, helping teams launch features safely while optimizing performance and reliability at the edge.
This team values collaboration, clear communication, and shared ownership. You’ll participate in architecture and planning discussions, proactively surface risks, and partner with peers to solve challenges that directly impact customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
Configure and manage edge delivery settings and CDN configurations (primarily Akamai) to support product launches and feature releases
Partner with engineering and product teams to provide guidance on system design, scalability, performance, and reliability
Support the delivery lifecycle, ensuring services remain stable during testing, rollout, and production operation
Monitor web traffic and application behavior at the edge to detect anomalies, mitigate threats, and ensure legitimate user access
Implement and maintain security protections including WAF policies, bot mitigation, and access control rules
Investigate incidents by reviewing traffic patterns, logs, and performance data
Manage firewall rules, allow/deny lists, and access policies across edge platforms
Analyze page load performance and traffic flow to identify optimization opportunities
Conduct performance reviews and tuning initiatives that improve speed, reliability, and user experience
Build and maintain automation for deployment, configuration management, and operational workflows
Enable self-service capabilities for development teams to reduce manual operational overhead
Document systems, processes, and operational playbooks while sharing insights across teams
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent professional experience
5+ years of experience in edge delivery, CDN engineering, web performance, networking, or web infrastructure
Hands-on experience with Akamai CDN and edge services (required)
Experience with other CDN platforms such as Cloudflare, Fastly, or similar is a plus
Strong understanding of HTTP/HTTPS, DNS, caching, browser behavior, and content delivery architecture
Experience implementing edge security controls, including WAF policies, bot protection, and DDoS mitigation
Ability to analyze traffic logs and telemetry data to troubleshoot performance or security issues
Experience working with web performance monitoring tools, including synthetic testing, real-user monitoring (RUM), and alerting systems
Familiarity with bug tracking and workflow tools such as Jira
Experience building automation using scripting or infrastructure-as-code tools
Preferred Skills
Experience integrating Akamai services such as Property Manager, EdgeWorkers, or Bot Manager
Knowledge of AWS networking and cloud infrastructure
Experience supporting high-traffic consumer-facing platforms
Strong documentation, collaboration, and cross-team communication skills
