Summary

We’re seeking an Intermediate Cloud & Video Solution Architect to design, evolve, and guide the delivery of scalable, secure, and cost‑efficient cloud video platforms. In this role, you will own end‑to‑end architectures supporting live and on‑demand streaming, including ingest, encoding, packaging, CDN/edge delivery, playback, analytics, and observability.

You will work closely with engineering, product, security, and business stakeholders, contributing both high-level architectural leadership and hands-on technical validation. This role is ideal for someone strong in cloud systems design who also enjoys prototyping and rolling up their sleeves.

Key Responsibilities

Architecture & Systems Design

Define and document reference architectures for live and VOD workflows (ingest → transcode/packaging → storage → CDN/edge → playback → analytics).
Select and integrate cloud building blocks: containers/Kubernetes, storage, databases/caches, event streaming, CDN/edge, observability, identity/security.
Design for scalability, reliability (multi‑AZ/region), cost efficiency, and operational simplicity using IaC and GitOps.

Video Pipeline & Playback

Architect contribution and ingest paths (SRT/RIST/RTMP), transcoding/transmuxing, and HLS/DASH (CMAF) packaging.
Evaluate and integrate codec strategies (H.264/AVC, H.265/HEVC, AV1), ABR ladders, and low‑latency modes (LL‑HLS, LL‑DASH, WebRTC/SFU).
Support and deploy DRM industry standards (PlayReady, Widevine, FairPlay, etc) and key management strategies using industry standards such as Speke or CPIX
Guide player integration (web/mobile/TV) and define playback telemetry (startup time, rebuffering, bitrate distribution, error rates).

Cloud, Networking & Edge

Architect solutions on Azure/AWS/GCP (preferably Azure if applicable) using AKS/EKS/GKE, Event Hubs/Kafka, Redis, and object storage.
Design CDN/edge delivery using Akamai, CloudFront, Fastly, or Azure Front Door, implementing tokenized URLs, geo/IP rules, shielding, and caching.
Define global routing (Anycast/DNS), edge compute offloads (Workers/Functions), and multi‑CDN/traffic‑steering strategies.

Security, Privacy & Compliance

Enforce secure‑by‑design principles: TLS, OAuth2/OIDC, JWT, Key Vault/KMS, least privilege, secrets rotation, secure SDLC.
Implement watermarking/forensics, secure packaging, origin/CDN hardening.
Support SOC 2, ISO 27001, PIPEDA/GDPR compliance with proper evidence and documentation.

Reliability, Observability & Cost

Define SLOs/SLIs for both platform QoS and viewer QoE.
Implement end‑to‑end monitoring with OpenTelemetry, synthetic testing, RUM, and video‑specific analytics.
Establish autoscaling, load/chaos testing (k6/Locust), blue‑green/canary deployments.
Optimize cloud spend via tagging, rightsizing, caching efficiency, and egress reduction.

Delivery, Enablement & Governance

Produce architecture diagrams, ADRs, playbooks, runbooks, and threat models.
Champion IaC (Terraform/Bicep), CI/CD (GitHub Actions/Azure DevOps), and policy‑as‑code.
Provide technical leadership to squads; support vendor assessments and build‑vs‑buy decisions.
Collaborate with Product on roadmap planning and risk mitigation.

Critical Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field—or equivalent practical experience.
2+ years in cloud architecture or backend/platform engineering, including 2+ years in video streaming (live and/or VOD).
Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP; container orchestration (Kubernetes); IaC (Terraform/Bicep), preference is to AWS.
Cost optimization at scale (egress reduction, caching strategy, hot/cold tiering).
Strong understanding of ABR, HLS/DASH (CMAF), DRM, CDN caching, origin hardeni
