Position Description:
We are seeking a LAN / Wi-Fi / Voice Network Engineer III to provide advanced engineering and operational support for mission-critical radio and network systems in Raleigh, NC. This role serves as the primary technical point of contact for Radio Management System (RMS) support, delivering hands-on expertise in Land Mobile Radio (LMR), RF systems, and enterprise networking.
The engineer will support daily operations, troubleshooting, system optimization, and lifecycle management of LAN, Wi-Fi, and voice communication infrastructure. This is a hybrid role requiring on-site support four days per week, with schedule subject to change.
Key focus areas include Motorola LMR systems, radio programming, network performance monitoring, compliance, documentation, and end-user training. The role operates Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as the primary engineer for Radio Management System (RMS) operations and support
Provide engineering guidance and hands-on support for radio system programming using Radio Management Software
Provision, re-provision, and configure LMR (Land Mobile Radio) assets, including radio codeplugs
Perform maintenance and advanced troubleshooting of Motorola LMR systems and infrastructure
Monitor LAN, Wi-Fi, and voice network performance; resolve complex issues and implement solutions
Plan and execute system upgrades, patches, and new equipment installations
Develop and maintain disaster recovery, security, backup, and restore plans
Coordinate with LMR service providers and customer project management teams as needed
Create and maintain technical documentation for system configuration, administration, and troubleshooting
Ensure all LMR equipment complies with FCC regulations and customer requirements
Deliver a monthly inventory report detailing radio fleet assets, configurations, and locations
Evaluate emerging technologies to improve system efficiency, reliability, and performance
Train users and local agencies on communication equipment usage and best practices
Required Skills / Education:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field
8+ years of overall professional experience
3+ years of experience in LMR, RF systems, radio communications, or IT/network engineering
Strong expertise in LAN and Wi-Fi networking environments
Hands-on experience with Motorola radio systems and Motorola Radio Service Software
Experience with ServiceNow or similar ticketing systems
Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools
Solid understanding of radio programming, codeplugs, and fleet management
Strong verbal and written communication skills with a customer-focused approach
Ability to work independently in a high-availability, mission-critical environment
